The Mary Majka Scholarship Fund was established in 2014 by Nature NB to honour the legacy of one of our founding members, Mary Majka, with the intent to further youth engagement with nature and our natural heritage.

Mary Majka was an environmental pioneer, TV host, wildlife rehabilitator and outdoor educator … a driving force behind New Brunswick’s first conservation organizations. But it was her fervent defence and preservation of cultural heritage, sensitive habitats, and the wild creatures that share our world that most influenced those around her.

Eligibility and General Scholarship Information

The Mary Majka Scholarship Fund is open to New Brunswick students from middle school to those attending an undergraduate program. Awards will be granted on a yearly basis ranging from $250 to $1000, depending on the number of applicants and funds available.

Scholarships will be awarded in three distinct categories:

1. High School graduates, upon entering a post-secondary education program focusing on nature conservation;
2. Post-secondary students who is already enrolled in aa post-secondary education program focused on nature conservation; or
3. Students in middle or high school, for a project focused on nature conservation.

How to Apply

Applications are accepted annually. The deadline to apply is March 31st of the current calendar year. Once your application is submitted, it will be reviewed by our scholarship committee. Decisions will be made and successful applicants will be notified by the end of May.

Joseph G. Doria Exemplary Student Award 

Who: Secondary students accepted into a full-time welding program offered by a Canadian post-secondary institution.  Award Amount: Up to$3,000  Deadline For Applications: June 12, 2026

Joseph G. Doria Exemplary Student Award – CWB Welding Foundation

Nicole LeClair Welding Bursary 

Who: Awarded to four students pursuing welding or a welding-related skilled trade at the post-secondary education level at a publicly funded post-secondary school within Ontario. Applicants must be residents of Ontario to be eligible to apply. 

Award Amount: Up to $2,000 awarded to four recipients

Hugh A. Krentz Student Award 

Who: Post-secondary students entering their final year of study in a welding-based program (full list of programs are available here). 

Award Amount: Up to $3,000

Indspire Indigenous Bursaries 

Who: Indigenous students currently enrolled in post-secondary courses related to or leading to careers in welding.

Student eligibility criteria:

• Graduate high school in the 2025/2026 school year
• Be a Canadian citizen
• Plan to enroll in an eligible STEM program at one of our partner universities.  (View eligible programs at schulichleaders.com/universities)
• Meet the following criteria:
  • Entrepreneurial-minded (exhibiting leadership, charisma and creativity).
  • Strong consideration will be given to students with financial need.
  • Intend to pursue a career in one or more of the following focus areas:
    • Technology
    • Engineering
    • Entrepreneurship and business enterprise
    • Applied scientific research

We are NOT considering students who:

• Focus on activism (environmental/social/political).
• Intend to become a practicing physician and/or medical researcher (e.g. Doctor, Dentist, Nurse, Psychologist, Pharmacist, Optometrist, etc.)
• Intent to pursue a career in academia or conduct theoretical research

Together with AFOA Canada, a not-for-profit led by Indigenous Peoples, we’ve worked to build a scholarship for Indigenous Peoples. Through it, 25 scholarships are available to be awarded annually, worth up to $60K over 4 years.

Students from the Indigenous community face unique challenges and systemic barriers that can make getting a post-secondary education difficult. So, we worked closely with AFOA Canada to build a scholarship program that helps meet the unique needs of students from the Indigenous community.

What is included in this scholarship? 

• $10,000 towards tuition each year†  For a maximum of 4 years
• $5,000 towards living expenses each year  For a maximum of 4 years
• Employment opportunities at TD Summer employment between years of study⁷

†If tuition is less than $10,000 the balance can be applied towards living expenses.⁶
