The Drama Club, under the direction of Dramatic Arts teacher, Chris Matheson, presented Edna Ferber and George S. Kaufman’s iconic play Stage Door. The show brought together the talented actors of the Drama Club, featuring a diverse cast of over 30 performers, including a brilliant group of Grade 9 students making their debut on stage.

One of the club’s key achievements was balancing the comedic elements of Stage Door with its more serious undertones. The play is filled with fast-paced, witty exchanges that required sharp timing and impeccable delivery.

Snow delays couldn’t stop this performance with opening night and closing night being postpone due to inclement weather. Family members, friends, and community members gathered to witness the hard work of the cast and crew. The actors—some nervous, some confident, but all ready—took to the stage and transformed the MVHS auditorium into the bustling, energetic world of a 1930s New York boarding house. “It was a great success, everyone had a chance to shine, I could not have been more pleased’ said Matheson.

The audience was treated to a series of laugh-out-loud moments, particularly in the interactions between the quirky characters vying for fame, all wrapped in moments of reflection on their dreams and realities.

For everyone involved, Stage Door was a success that not only showcased the immense talent of the students, but also reflected the strong, supportive theater community at MVHS. Stay tuned to see what this talented club has up next.
