For the 2026–2027 academic year, LDANB will award one $1,000 scholarship to a student who meets the eligibility criteria outlined below.
The scholarship is open to:
- Grade 12 students entering post-secondary education in Fall 2026
- Current post-secondary students who will continue their studies during the 2026– 2027 academic year
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Residency
Must be a New Brunswick resident with proof of residency (driver’s licence, provincial ID, or Medicare card).
- Diagnosis of a Learning Disability
Applicants must have been formally diagnosed with a learning disability. Learning disabilities affect the acquisition, organization, retention, understanding, or use of verbal or nonverbal information in individuals with at least average abilities essential for reasoning and thinking. Common learning disabilities include:
- Dyslexia (reading)
- Dysgraphia / Written expression disorder
- Dyscalculia (math)
Conditions That Are Not Learning Disabilities These conditions may co-occur with learning disabilities but do not qualify on their own:
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Anxiety and/or depression
- Oppositional Defiant Disorder
- Communication disorders
- Intellectual disabilities
- Proof of Diagnosis
Applicants must provide one of the following with their application:
- A letter from a high school Resource Teacher or post-secondary Student Services office
- A diagnostic statement from a psychoeducational assessment
- Essay or Creative Submission
Applicants must submit either:
- A 500–800 word essay, or
- A creative submission (such as a video, artwork, creative writing piece, etc.)
Submissions must relate to the applicant’s experience of living with a learning disability. Applicants considering a creative entry are encouraged to contact [email protected] before submitting.
Suggested topics include:
- How having a learning disability has impacted your life
- Obstacles you have overcome in your education or personal life
- Accomplishments you are proud to have achieved as a person with a learning disability
