Eligibility and How to Qualify

We value drive, resilience and demonstrated IDEA leadership alongside academic achievement. You qualify if you meet all criteria:

• Entering your first year only of a biosciences-related program at an accredited Canadian college, university or CEGEP. Students beyond first year or in non-biosciences programs will be screened out.
• Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person (proof via transcript or acceptance letter). International students are not eligible.
• Identify as one of:
  • Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, Métis)
  • Persons with Disability (qualify for Disability Tax Credit)
  • Newcomer to Canada (immigrant, refugee or permanent resident with fewer than 5 years in Canada)
• Demonstrate IDEA leadership: Everyday wins like starting a diversity club, helping peers overcome barriers or inclusive projects count.

Awards: Three $10,000 scholarships ($5,000 for CEGEP) – one per category. Niche focus offers stronger odds than broader national programs.

Students cannot be directly related to BioTalent Canada team members or board members.

Are you a high school graduate with a passion for mechanics and a drive to succeed in the transportation industry? The Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association (APTA) is proud to offer a one-time bursary of $750 to support aspiring individuals like you!

About the Bursary:

• Amount: $750 (Paid in September 2026)
• Purpose: To support high school graduates entering the Heavy-Duty Truck and Trailer Technician program at any of the NSCC, NBCC/CCNB or CONA locations.
• Up to 7 awards are available annually.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Must be a high school graduate.
• Must be entering the Heavy-Duty Truck and Trailer Technician program at an approved education institution.

How to Apply:

• Successful candidates will need to confirm enrollment in September 2026 at beginning of school year in order to receive the bursary.

Since 2004, we have awarded more than $234,000 to deserving students.  John Eisner was President & CEO of SolveYourDebts.com (formerly Credit Counselling Services of Atlantic Canada) for nearly 30 years. He believed strong financial literacy is the cornerstone of future financial freedom and was committed to fostering financial literacy in young people. 

As a non-profit organization, our mission is to support, educate and empower individuals in managing their personal finances.  Through our scholarship program, our primary goal is to improve financial literacy among youth in Atlantic Canada and to help reduce the burden of student debt.  Students must prepare a short video as per application instructions, adhering to the criteria, rules and regulations.  The deadline for this year’s application submissions is May 4^th, 2026.  All submissions must be made through our website by clicking “Apply Now” and completing the entry form with the link to their original video included.

We hope you will assist us in spreading the word.  We have the funds available and would love to give it away!  We know there are so many deserving students in Atlantic Canada and welcome their submissions.  A great aspect about our scholarship is that it is not based on academic grades and is open to all who wish to apply.
